The Round the Island Race – is a one day yacht race round the Isle of Wight. With 1,100 entries in 2023, it is one of the pre-eminent events in the Solent and a must see for all who love boats and boating.
The next edition of the race will be on the 15th June 2024 and we would love for you to join us!
What does the day look like?
Racing starts early, so it’s a hearty breakfast at the marina before setting off to see the fast boats start at 08:00 prompt. The record lap of the Island is just 2 hours 26 minutes!
After the fast boats it’s the classics, starting at 09:00, beautiful wooden boats battle it out for looks as well as starting prowess.
Once the action has unfolded on the start line, it’s a fast ride up to the Needles to watch the frontrunners rounding this iconinc part of the Solent….
As the thousands of boats catch up with the needles, it’s an amazing spectacle – worth sitting back and admiring – and perhaps at this stage, it’s time for an aperitif!
Lunch time – we head into Yarmouth, the Hut or back to Cowes – we won’t take too long though as we want to head back to the water to watch the winners finish.
The spectacle continues well into the afternoon, with boats and their tired crew rounding – however you and your guests remain cosey and refreshed in your Axopar 28 Cabin!
One of my favourite charters, our guests love it! I can’t wait for next year
